Mindy, a friend of Tallgrass Spiritual Retreat Center, has written five original songs with music. She recently burned a CD of these songs and then donated the CD to the retreat center to aid in the ministry’s fundraising efforts. Copies of the CD are available at the retreat center for a free-will donation.
Tallgrass Spiritual Retreat Center is a non-profit organization which provides space, time and a place for women to renew, refresh and restore themselves. Women from all over Kansas – and beyond – have found value in coming to this place, found in the heart of the Flint Hills. Here are some of their comments:
Thank you for a place of peace and beauty - to share and experience a time of worship and renewal. . . Marilyn
It was a wonderful weekend and allowed me to do exactly what I came here to do - relax and get "plugged back into the vine." I'll be back! Lynn
Thank you . . . for the beauty of this place even on a chilly, grey, desolate day. Soul work needs time and place and grace. Carole
Thank you for this safe space. Lori
This space is holy! Lila
What a relaxing time - to create, to be playful, to laugh - - & laugh! I loved being here with this group of women. Let's do it again! Kathy
Mindy’s songs include: Tallgrass Prairie, an expression of Mindy’s love for this special place in Kansas, Down to the Emma Chase, a fun song inviting folks to join the pickers and fiddlers down at a local café on Friday nights, as well as three other original love songs.
The CD is offered to supporters of Tallgrass Spiritual Retreat Center on a free-will offering basis. Any donation over $5 goes towards the continuing ministry of the center. Please contact the retreat center by email at tallgrassretreats@wheatstate.com or by phone at 620.753.3465, if interested in this CD.
If you never get to the Tallgrass Prairie of Kansas, may you find your own special place where you can listen to your heart, refresh your soul and be renewed.
Blessings,
Billie Blair, Director

Tallgrass Prairie
Wild flowers in the ditches, cloud shadows in the fields.
Cattle grazing on a thousand grass covered hills.
Gotta take some time to get where you’re going,
‘cause flint rock roads are paved with arrowheads.
Refrain:
And I wonder why God made the Tallgrass Prairie
Maybe just so I can lean on a fence post and feel free.
They tell me that the sky’s as big as Texas,
But Kansas is God’s only sky for me.
Pasture fires in springtime, whitetails running free.
Fields of corn and beans and milo waving like the sea.
When you look across the bluestem, you can see forever.
A Kansas heaven just for you and me. Refrain.
Grocery store in Strong City, Biker Breakfast in Cassoday.
Friday night big choices we gotta make.
Should we go down for steak night at the Hitchin’ Post,
Or go pickin’ at the Emma Chase Café? Refrain.
