The Natural Grass Walking Labyrinth

Walking the Path of the Heart
The labyrinth has only one path in and out,
so there are no tricks and no dead ends to figure out.
   The labyrinth reflects our lives,
touching our sorrow and freeing our joy
as we walk it with an open mind, an open spirit,
    and an open heart.

A labyrinth seemed a natural thing to have at the retreat center. It finally happened!  And certainly not the way anyone expected.  It was thought a crew of laborers was needed to move rock or gravel or some other medium into the yard to create the labyrinth.  It would be labor intensive and pricey.  Not so!  Mindy, a United Methodist pastor and friend of the Center's director, figured out how to mow one into the grass already planted in the yard.  No cost.  No intensive labor.  All it took was a plunger, string and landscape chalk found at the local hardware store used to mark off the circles.  The path was mowed with a push mower set on its lowest setting and the lines in between the path were mowed with the riding mower set on its highest level.  Voila! A 32' diameter labyrinth.  There have been many positive comments already from women who have walked it.

Walking the labyrinth
Winter Labyrinth
If the sight of the blue skies
fills you with joy,
if a blade of grass
springing up in the fields
has power to move you,
if the simple things in nature
have a message you understand,
rejoice,
for your soul is alive.
